Hello!
I am so excited that you expressed interest in Edmonton’s [first] Introduction to Bowspring event!
Currently, there are no local Bowspring teachers (unless you have a hidden gem that I don’t know about!), so any of us taking classes are doing so online, practicing at home alone.
AND YET there is something so magical about practicing as a group, learning something new as a group!
So on May 2nd, from 10am to 1pm, we will gather to practice in-person to get a taste for this revolutionary movement practice and learn some of the foundational elements of the Global Bowspring practice. And we have the absolute privilege of being taught and guided by Hayley Balenseifen (@bravobodyandbow) via zoom.
This is Hayley our Bowspring instructor! <3
So what will that look like?
Hayley on the “big screen” via Zoom, us on our mats, each with a device (phone, tablet etc), so you have a camera on and Hayley will be able to see you and guide you from a far.
You do not need any experience with Bowspring to attend, AND you are also welcome if you DO have experience with Bowspring.
This practice is like learning a new language for your body, both in how you move, connect your brain to your body, the movement cues and the jargon.
A beginner’s mindset full of humility is the best to arrive.
You do not need to feel like you are already fit, super strong, or flexible to participate. It is going to challenge you (in a new way) no matter where you are starting from, in the best possible way - promise :)
We will also NOT be doing activity then ENTIRE time, and you absolutely will still get something out of it by participating in whatever capacity you are able.
I could go on about “What Bowspring is…” but until you see and experience it, it feels very difficult to explain. You can check out @globalbowspring and @bravobodyandbow… for a taste of what you’re signing up for.
Or just come because you are curious :)
Schedule:
Arrival - 9:40 am ~ time to set up your mat, get your device connected to wifi and zoom & propped up
Class Start - 10:00 am ~ Bow time!!
{Break - ~11:20 to 11:35 am}
Resume Class - 11:35 am
Class End - 1:00 pm
Depart by 1:15 pm
What do I need to bring?
Yoga mat
Waterbottle
A device (phone/tablet) - to access the Zoom link so you can be on video & Hayley will be able to see you
Something to hold your phone/device like a little tripod (or just get creative)
A little snack if you need
What do I wear?
Something you can move in - like you would wear to a regular yoga class + layers to keep you warm in the slower times
Can I bring my baby?
Unlike my other events, having your baby along won’t really work for this one. If you are nursing and want to have someone bring your baby for the break, you could consider that.
What does the cost go to?
To Hayley for 3 hours of her time & all of her expertise and skill in sharing her knowledge
To pay for the rental space
Can I attend virtually if I am not in Edmonton?
Yes, since Hayley will be on zoom anyways, you can attend virtually, AND the exciting part of this is that we get to move together in the same room. Reach out if you want to inquire about this option.
Unfortunately no beach bowspring for us this time, but the space is nice!
